Your Own Swimming Pool
Guest post written by Rob Stone
‘You’ve seen it in the movies, now see if it’s true’, as the words of a well known song tell us. They did not refer to a swimming pool in the song but what about if they had. Can you possibly have a swimming pool in your own back garden? To many of us it is just a pipe dream but to anyone who has the space the idea will sound idyllic. Our British weather will obviously have its say but let’s look on the bright side. Forget rainy days and cold winds. Think of the sun loungers next to the pool, long cool drinks in our hand and the occasional dip in the warm water. Think of the excellent exercise the kids (and adults) can have.
Your own pool can bring with it a few minuses like the cost of the upkeep; will the house sell well if it has a pool and one day you want to move. The latter especially if the prospective purchasers have young children. Like any large project there are always two ways of looking at things but lets assume you go-ahead.
As with any major job it takes a lot of thought and planning before the digging begins. Consider – are you having a heated pool, what shape will the pool be and many other questions. For hygienic reasons you must have a filtration and pumping system to maintain clean water. A survey must be carried out to ascertain the amount of space available not forgetting an area around the pool. Remember that a decision needs to be made which end will be the deep end and which will be the shallow. As we said it takes planning.
Assuming you are not taking on this monumental task yourself make sure the Contractors are full insured and ask for their licenses before they start. If you have seen some of their previous work then so much the better. There may be a situation whereby their expertise may help you with some of your decisions but do not forget you are paying and don’t agree to anything just for the sake of it.
Upon completion an essential piece of additional equipment is a cover to protect the water from debris and dirt. There are some outlets that stock a cover with special safety devices on them to prevent children entering the pool without adult supervision. A cover will also aid the heat retention of the water.
Whatever size pool you end up with enjoy it to the full.

Tips to save on housing refurbishment

Work on a house involves a high cost for those who rush, but there are many methods to lower the price without sacrificing quality.
The reform of housing is always a very strong financial outlay for the economy of almost any family. Although work at home are always going to be a significant expense, there are many ways to save money amounts that can reach tens of thousands of euros.
Finding out about grants
Before you tackle the reform should visit the relevant websites or offices of the State or the autonomous region in which you reside for information about the aid that may be applicable. These subsidies can affect the whole or part, reform, and there are more opportunities that exist in the case of wanting to improve home energy efficiency, security of the building or if it is an old construction.
Asking for help from an expert
If the proposed reform is simple (kitchen, flooring, etc..) Do not need professional advice, but if the work requires demolition of walls or open spaces, it is necessary, even mandatory, to have the assistance of a technician. Depending on the type of reform that he wants to undertake, will require the signature of an architect, but in other cases will be worth on the advice of a surveyor or a decorator. In any case, appeal to popular will, of course, a saving in expenditure.
Request several quotes
Having decided what the reform is to be done, it’s time to ask for prices. At a time of crisis like the present, construction companies and unions will be competing in fees. It is a matter of finding those who offer better value for money.
At this point, it is useful to know what the benefit industrial construction company, that is, the money billed as extra income apart from the costs associated with the work. This amount can vary between 7% and 15%, approximately, and is one of the points of negotiation with the company. Of course it is not always necessary to hire a construction firm.
